Literacy and Adult Basic Education (LABE)

Literacy and Adult Basic Education (LABE) is an Ugandan indigenous NGO founded in 1989. LABE has grown into the largest Ugandan civil society provider of literacy and adult basic education related services.

LABE's mission is to promote literacy practices, increase access and utilisation of information particularly amongst women and children inlocal communities to effectively demand and protect their individual and wider rights.

Partnership with the Finnish Refugee Council started in 1997 with adult literacy-related work among Sudanese refugees in the West Nile region of Uganda. Together we have been able to train literacy instructors, produce a refugee literacy curriculum, produce instructional materials and do advocacy work for literacy in Uganda.

LABE receives funding from donors in The United Kingdom and from the Netherlands.
