Welcome to you all in this chat! This is my first time to respond to your questions. My first reply is about the peace process in the Sudan and what this will mean to the lives of the Sudanese refugees who are living in Uganda. I hope you will find the answers useful to you.

Sudaniin tuli rauha 9.1.2005. Palaavatko pakolaiset nyt takaisin kotimaahansa? Miten ja milloin se tapahtuu?

Answer:

It is true the Sudan government and rebels of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement signed a peace agreement on 9/1/2005.However, this does not mean that normal life will immediately be enjoyed by the refugees who have been living in settlement camps. The reasons for this include- the duration of this war. This has been one of Africa's longest civil war and has lasted for about 40 years. Therefore the essentials of life like safewater, medicines, etc are not yet available to the people.Secondly, there is the problem of landmines scattered all over the battlefield. All this means that muchas people will return to their country,it is most likely that it will happen after one year from the date of the peace agreement provided also that the peace process does not break down! The UNHCR will play a big role in repatriating refugees back to their country once the situation normalises. But a lot of relief support is needed to put up things like roads, boreholes, and basic necessities for the returnees.
